Kickflip. We Do the Trick.(Interview)

A few weeks ago we got together with our homies at Kickflip and we decided to make a small interview. When looking at Kickflip, we see a long-term partner, with whom we can create some awesome works. But I am not gonna tell you more. Just check out the interview and learn for yourself.

If you wanna know more about them just visit their beautiful website:

● What is Kickflipx and what do you do?

It is actually Kickflip. The “x” stands for experiences. We are a newly founded design studio focused on brand identity, user experience and digital products.

● Where are you based?

Martin: The core team is currently living and working in Sofia, but we travel as much as we can.

Jordan: We also have business development folks in Montreal and Auckland and we are currently considering possible partnership opportunities in other countries.

● Why did you decide to start your own studio?

We’ve always wanted to work on our own ideas and challenge ourselves to deliver inspiring products. The three of us share a common vision and we always strive to deliver our best, no matter what. We made Kickflip because we’d like to put all our ideas under one roof and we think our varied skillsets will make this happen.

● Who are the other co-founders of Kickflip? How do you all complement each other skills-wise?

Max: The core team consists of Martin, Jordan and I.

Jordan does research, marketing and strategy, Martin is the digital UI/UX guy and I’m doing visual identity and creative direction.

● What do you want to bring to the design industry?

As a new team, we don’t really have a clear idea of what we’d like to “bring to the design industry”. What we do know is that we want to produce work that inspires like-minded people and solves everyday problems in a simple and creative manner.

● Where does your inspiration come from?

Literally everywhere. From skateboarding and snowboarding, art, photography, the world around us and even Martin’s cats. We’re really motivated by people who are passionate about what they do for a living and we try to do the same.

● What does your typical “creative process” look like?

Very similar to learning a new trick. We build on what we already know in order to get to something better every time.

● What is your work philosophy?

You can’t build a great building on a weak foundation.

Now some questions about the making of a start-up and a few more things…

● What is the toughest decision you had to make in the last months?

Max: Whether I should get another 9-5 job or try to create my dream job.

Martin: Whether I should work or sleep

Jordan: I’m with Martin on this one.

● Where do you see Kickflip in 5 years?

Still independent, with more locations, developing our own products, and working on things that make us happy.

● What book do you think everybody at Kickflip should read?

Martin:The $100 Startup” by Chris Guillebeau, “Mind power” by John Kehoe

Max:A technique for producing ideas” by James Webb Young

Jordan: Thinking, Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman

● What movie, no matter how many times you’ve seen it, you have to see if it’s on?

Martin: Limitless!

Jordan: Rush was the latest movie that I really liked

Max: Grind and Poolhall junkies

Well, that was about it. Don’t forget to check out their website and stay put, some cool collaboration might be coming soon.
